Veterinary Nurses – the ‘Unsung Heroes’
Veterinary Nurse Awareness Month is the perfect time to shine a light on the incredible work our nurses do every single day. From monitoring anaesthetics and supporting pets through surgery, to running clinics, giving treatments, preparing medications, assisting with diagnostics and comforting nervous patients, their role is varied, skilled and essential. Veterinary nurses are at the heart of patient care, helping every part of the practice run safely, smoothly and compassionately.
The Many Hats Our Veterinary Nurses Wear
Veterinary nurses take on many different roles, and each one matters. They are caregivers, surgical assistants, patient advocates, educators and a reassuring presence for both pets and their owners. On any given day they may be supporting a procedure, advising clients, caring for inpatients, maintaining high clinical standards or helping train and support colleagues. Their knowledge, calm approach and dedication make a real difference to the animals and people who rely on them.
What Happens Behind the Scenes?
So much of veterinary nursing happens behind the scenes, often without clients ever seeing just how much is involved. Our nurses carefully prepare theatre and equipment, monitor recovery, restock supplies, keep records updated, maintain hygiene standards, support lab work and make sure every patient has exactly what they need throughout the day. It is thoughtful, detailed work that helps our practice deliver safe, efficient and compassionate care from start to finish.
